On the 1st (local time), foreign media including NBC News and BBC reported that an Air Europa Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner passenger plane, departing from Madrid, Spain, and heading to Montevideo, the capital of Uruguay, experienced severe turbulence in the early morning, causing the aircraft to shake violently and make an emergency landing at Natal International Airport in eastern Brazil.

The plane was carrying 325 passengers, and at least 30 passengers were injured in the accident. The injured are currently receiving treatment at nearby hospitals. Air Europa issued a statement via social media saying, "The passenger plane heading to Montevideo diverted to Natal due to severe turbulence," and "The plane landed safely."

At the time, the plane suddenly dropped sharply due to strong turbulence during the flight, causing passengers who were not wearing seat belts to be thrown into the air. Photos showing the cabin ceiling damaged by the rough air currents and broken seats inside the plane were also posted on social media. In particular, a video of a male passenger rolling into an overhead luggage compartment and being rescued by other passengers became a hot topic.

One passenger said, "The flight attendants advised us to 'fasten your seat belts,' and right after that advice, the plane suddenly dropped sharply," adding, "Those who were not wearing seat belts were thrown into the air, and some hit the ceiling." BBC reported on the incident, stating, "Severe turbulence is rare, but recent studies indicate that the risk may increase due to climate change."

Meanwhile, Air Europa plans to dispatch another passenger plane to pick up the passengers who landed in Brazil and continue to Uruguay.
