Check Busan Port Fine Dust Status at a Glance on BPA Website
Busan Port Fine Dust Simple Detector Performance Test 'Passes'
Busan Port Authority (BPA, President Kang Junseok) completed performance inspections on 21 simplified fine dust measuring devices at Busan Port on the 28th of last month.
Since 2021, BPA has installed and managed 21 first-grade simplified fine dust measuring devices at North Port, New Port, Gamcheon Port, and the International Passenger Terminal to provide environmental information about Busan Port to port workers and nearby residents.
The fine dust information measured by BPA can be checked on electronic display boards installed alongside the devices. Real-time measurement information is also available through the current status of fine dust at Busan Port posted in the ESG Management section of the BPA website.
The simplified fine dust measuring devices, which measure concentration by detecting scattered light generated when light is shone on fine dust particles in the air, have the advantage of providing real-time results. However, they are affected by substances other than fine dust, such as humidity.
To address this, the Ministry of Environment revised the Enforcement Decree and Enforcement Rules of the "Special Act on the Reduction and Management of Fine Dust" in 2023 for the post-management of simplified fine dust measuring devices.
The main revisions include setting the validity period of performance certification for simplified fine dust measuring devices to five years and introducing a performance inspection system that requires regular inspections every two years and six months.
As a result of the performance inspections requested by Busan Port Authority from a Ministry of Environment-designated inspection agency, all 21 simplified measuring devices received a "pass" in both repeatability and accuracy, which are the evaluation criteria.
Lee Sangkwon, Head of Construction Headquarters at BPA, said, "With all the simplified measuring devices installed by Busan Port Authority receiving a pass, we can now provide even more reliable information to local residents and port workers," adding, "We will continue our efforts to provide transparent and accurate environmental information."
