On the morning of the 2nd, the People Power Party held a '5-Minute Vision Presentation' in Gangseo-gu, Seoul, with candidates for the party leadership election in attendance. At this event, candidates running for party leader presented pledges highlighting their strengths and appealed for support. Candidate Han Dong-hoon promised to establish a new support fund system for non-incumbent politicians, while candidate Won Hee-ryong pledged to lead meetings between the party and government to stabilize interest rates and prices, and to create a "Red Team" to offer candid advice to President Yoon Suk-yeol. Candidate Na Kyung-won vowed to restore the roots of conservatism and tackle inflation alongside Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party, and candidate Yoon Sang-hyun emphasized creative innovation.
Candidate Han said, "The Democratic Party lacks democracy, and the People Power Party lacks power," adding, "Looking at the downward trend of our party since the general election, we lack the strength to protect our government and to recreate the administration." He emphasized, "I will create a party attractive to the metropolitan area, centrists, and youth."
His pledges included establishing offices for floor party branch chiefs to innovate the regional political system and creating a support fund system for non-incumbent politicians. He also announced plans to reorganize the Yeouido Institute, the People Power Party's think tank, and to implement a 'Policy Naming System' that credits the person who proposed a draft law or policy.
Candidate Won Hee-ryong, former Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport under the Yoon Suk-yeol administration, expressed his intention to become a competent party leader who revitalizes people's livelihoods. He pledged to lead party-government meetings to stabilize interest rates and prices.
Regarding the relationship between the party and the government, he said, "We are the ruling party. Because there is a president, we are the ruling party," adding, "If the party and the president fight, no matter how good the intentions, the party will ultimately break apart and lose power." He continued, "I will lead a vibrant and productive party-government relationship based on trust," and said, "To this end, I will create a Red Team, a candid advice team. We will include those who can speak frankly within the party, members of the media, external experts, and representatives from various sectors who can convey public sentiment honestly and without filter."
Candidate Na Kyung-won, who introduced herself as a 'five-term incumbent party member' from the metropolitan area for 22 years, said, "If you don't understand the National Assembly, you are helpless against parliamentary dictatorship," and vowed to take on Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party. She said, "Lee Jae-myung, summed up in three syllables, represents the worst regression of this era," adding, "It is the bare face of the Democratic Party ruled by the banality of evil. We must catch Lee Jae-myung to set the Republic of Korea right."
She also pledged to control inflation and lead the improvement of the Korean economy's structure. Candidate Na said, "The party leader position is not a place for learning and experience," adding, "Vague expectations, painful tests, and disappointment ? let's stop that now." She continued, "A party leader who opposes the president, or one who owes the president, is also dangerous," simultaneously targeting candidates Han and Won by saying, "Division is certain defeat. Now is not the time for presidential competition."
Candidate Yoon Sang-hyun, who mentioned party change and innovation to overcome the crushing defeat in the general election, requested, "With a desperate heart to blow up the party center filled with selfishness and cowardice, please blow up the central party."
Candidate Yoon confessed, "I too once tried to align myself with the center of power and admit that I stood in line," adding, "I have been suspended from party membership, resigned as district party chief, and even ran as an independent. I have reflected a lot." He said, "I realized that politics should be done for the people, not for power," and added, "I want to build a winning party. A party where public sentiment is party sentiment, and party sentiment is Yoon sentiment (President Yoon Suk-yeol's intention)."
