National Public Officials Union Gyeonggi Headquarters Holds Press Conference on the 3rd to Urge Wage Increase

The Gyeonggi Regional Headquarters of the Korean Government Employees' Union will hold a 'Press Conference Urging a Raise in Government Employees' Salaries' on the 3rd at the Gyeonggi Provincial Government briefing room.

In a pre-distributed statement, the Gyeonggi Regional Headquarters of the Government Employees' Union pointed out, "Despite the continuous rise in living costs, the low rate of salary increases has resulted in a reduction of government employees' real wages every year, threatening their right to livelihood," and added, "Young government employees, who are the future of the public service, are leaving their positions due to wages at the minimum wage level."

They further emphasized, "Special measures for young government employees, including a substantial increase in government employees' salaries, are necessary."

The Gyeonggi Headquarters of the Government Employees' Union presented the main demands as ▲ a fixed basic salary increase of 313,000 KRW for government employees ▲ an increase in seniority allowance for lower-ranking positions ▲ an 80,000 KRW fixed meal allowance increase to cover a 10,000 KRW lunch cost (current lunch cost is 6,360 KRW) ▲ and a 35,000 KRW increase in position allowance.

Meanwhile, the Government Employees' Union will hold a large-scale rally on the 6th in Gwanghwamun, Seoul, where 30,000 people including education officials and police officers will gather to demand a salary increase.
