The city of Suwon in Gyeonggi Province is collaborating with local organizations to support health checkups and traditional Korean medicine programs for children to promote the healthy growth and disease prevention of 'Dream Start children.'
Dream Start is a program that provides customized integrated services in areas such as cognition and language, emotional and behavioral support, and physical health for children under 12 years old from vulnerable families and their families. Currently, three Dream Start centers operate in the Suwon area, located in Seryu, Wuman, and Yeonghwa.
Recently, Suwon Dream Start signed a memorandum of understanding with the Gyeonggi Branch of the Korea Health Management Association to support individual health checkups for Dream Start children.
According to this agreement, the Korea Health Management Association will cover 40% of the examination costs (approximately 100,000 KRW per child), and Suwon City will cover 60% of the costs (approximately 150,000 KRW per child). As a result, children can receive health checkups without any direct financial burden on their families.
Suwon City is also partnering with three local Korean medicine clinics to provide the ‘Dongbyeonghachi’ traditional medicine program to 60 Dream Start children by August.
Dongbyeonghachi is a preventive program for respiratory and digestive diseases designed to help children stay healthy during seasonal changes.
A Suwon city official expressed gratitude, saying, "We thank the Gyeonggi Branch of the Korea Health Management Association and the local Korean medicine clinics for their cooperation in supporting children's health," and added, "We plan to actively support Dream Start children’s healthy growth by collaborating with more organizations in the future."
