Gyeonggi-do Expands Special Inspections to Battery Disposal and Processing Companies Including Waste Battery Collection Gyeonggi Provincial Government

Gyeonggi Province is expanding special inspections to include companies that collect and process waste batteries.

Gyeonggi Province announced that, in addition to the four waste disposal sites currently included in the joint lithium business inspections, it will conduct additional joint inspections with city and county authorities from the 2nd to the 4th targeting 17 waste battery recycling businesses within the province.

The inspection teams will be organized into six teams of two people each, consisting of city and county officials. Fire stations such as Goyang Fire Station will also participate. The main inspection items include the appropriateness of waste storage locations and the installation of CCTV.

Separately, Gyeonggi Province will also conduct publicity campaigns for city and county officials, related businesses, and the general public to promote the safe handling of waste batteries. Before the special inspection of waste battery processing companies, Gyeonggi Province distributed precautions for the discharge and handling of lithium-based batteries to each city and county. Safety training for local government officials will be held on the 2nd and will also be communicated through village leaders' meetings.

Earlier, until the 27th of last month, Gyeonggi Province conducted on-site inspections of 16 lithium secondary battery collection boxes to strengthen safety management in areas closely related to residents' daily lives, such as waste disposal companies and the discharge of waste batteries and waste home appliances.

Cha Seong-su, Director of the Climate Environment and Energy Bureau of Gyeonggi Province, stated, "In addition to the lithium businesses currently undergoing safety inspections, Gyeonggi Province will conduct comprehensive safety inspections of collection boxes handling lithium-based batteries and recycling businesses handling waste batteries. We will do our best to take preemptive measures to prevent fires or environmental pollution accidents by strengthening waste battery management."
