MFDS, Label Information Missing on Test Products
Singer Sung Si-kyung's Makgeolli "Gyeongtakju 12 degrees," which was released under his name and became a huge topic, has been subject to disciplinary action by the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety.
On the 1st, Sung Si-kyung announced through his Instagram account, "I have some unfortunate news regarding Gyeongtakju." He explained, "Before the release of Gyeongtakju, excited about the launch of the alcohol, I shared some samples with people around me to get advice on the taste. However, due to a complaint from a consumer about some missing information on the product label of the sample, we received disciplinary action from the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety."
He continued, "Even though it was alcohol shared with acquaintances, I should have taken care of administrative and other detailed matters first, but this oversight was due to my ignorance," emphasizing, "This has nothing to do with the products currently being produced and sold, and there is absolutely no problem with the food itself." He also stated, "I plan to take this opportunity to carefully review and correct the shortcomings and reorganize. We also plan to increase the product volume and revamp the purchase site within this month." Finally, he concluded his post by saying, "I wanted to express my gratitude for the great love received, but I will come back better prepared and reorganized. Please look forward to it."
According to the disciplinary action by the Gyeongin Regional Food and Drug Administration, the sale of the already produced "Gyeongtakju 12 degrees" is allowed, but production of this alcohol at the brewery is prohibited for one month. As a result, Gyeong Korea, which sells this alcohol, will sell the last brewed "Gyeongtakju 12 degrees" only until August 2nd and plans to resume sales on August 20th after reorganization.
In February, Sung Si-kyung launched his own liquor brand "Gyeong," with Makgeolli "Gyeongtakju 12 degrees" as the first product. At the time of the product launch, Sung Si-kyung wrote in his own handwriting, "I have launched a liquor brand containing the Chinese character for my name, Gyeong (?)." He added, "Before presenting one bottle of alcohol, I tasted over 50 kinds of alcohol and went through numerous rigorous sample tests." He further said, "I wanted to share alcohol that I can confidently say is delicious with everyone," and "I hope the worries and joys I felt during production are fully conveyed and that it becomes a beloved drink." Since then, this product, commonly called "Sung Si-kyung Makgeolli," has enjoyed great popularity, selling out continuously. This alcohol won the grand prize in the traditional liquor category for raw Makgeolli at the "2024 Korea Liquor Awards" in April.
Sung Si-kyung actively promotes food and restaurants and enjoys alcohol as a gourmet and enthusiast through segments like "Sung Si-kyung's Mukultende" and "Sung Si-kyung Recipe" on his YouTube channel, which has 1.92 million subscribers.
