The official term of Seong Heum-je, the leader of the 11th Seoul Metropolitan Council Democratic Party of Korea for the second half, began on the 1st.

Launch of the 11th Seoul Metropolitan Council Democratic Party's Second Half Leadership under Representative Seong Heumje

Seong Heum-je, who was elected as the new leader of the Democratic Party of Korea for the second half on June 19th with the slogan "Recapturing Seoul for the Democratic Party with strong driving force," is a re-elected council member and former chairman of the Eunpyeong District Council. He also served as the chairman of the Urban Safety and Construction Committee of the 10th Seoul Metropolitan Council.

The formation of the 3rd floor leader group, which will play a central role in the Democratic Party alongside Leader Seong, has also been completed. The first leadership team of the Democratic Party for the second half of the 11th council consists of ▲Senior Deputy Floor Leader for Operations Kim Seong-jun (Geumcheon 1, first term) ▲Senior Deputy Floor Leader for Policy Lee Sang-hoon (Gangbuk 2, re-elected) ▲Communication Floor Leader Wang Jeong-sun (Gwanak 2, first term) ▲Chairman of the Livelihood Practice Committee Bong Yang-soon (Nowon 3, re-elected) ▲Planning Floor Leader Park Kang-san (Proportional representation, first term) ▲Chairman of the Multicultural Committee Aisuru (Proportional representation, first term) ▲Public Relations Floor Leader Lim Kyu-ho (Jungnang 2, first term). On the same day, Leader Seong appointed Council Member Jeong Jun-ho (Eunpyeong 4, first term) as the Democratic Party’s spokesperson for the council.

The most notable point in the first leadership team of the Democratic Party of Korea for the second half of the 11th Seoul Metropolitan Council is the reform of the senior floor leader system. Until now, the Democratic Party maintained a single senior deputy floor leader system, but by dividing it into operations senior deputy and policy senior deputy, they plan to separate party operations and policy activity support and strengthen each capability.

The revival of the Livelihood Practice Committee Chair and the establishment of the Multicultural Committee Chair are also noteworthy. This reflects Leader Seong’s commitment to emphasizing field-centered and civil complaint-centered legislative activities. The Democratic Party’s leadership team in the council will be responsible for overseeing political and policy consultations with institutions such as the National Assembly, Seoul City, and the Office of Education, representing the Democratic Party’s stance through comments and press releases, strengthening the policy capabilities and network of affiliated council members, and preparing response strategies for various livelihood issues.

Leader Seong Heum-je said, “As a minority opposition party, strong driving force is needed more than ever,” and added, “The responsibility of the floor leadership to enhance the status of a strong opposition party that works properly and a livelihood party well-versed in local civil complaints is immense.”

He also expressed his ambition, saying, “There are council members with diverse careers and expertise,” and “The Seoul Metropolitan Council Democratic Party of Korea will embrace the hearts of citizens through communication and service.”
