A teenage youth who caused an accident by driving without a license in a rental car and crashing into four other vehicles, including a 1-ton truck, has been booked by the police.

According to Yonhap News on the 1st, the Anyang Dongan Police Station in Gyeonggi Province booked a teenage boy identified as A on charges of violating the Road Traffic Act (hit-and-run after an accident and driving without a license).

A is accused of driving a Sonata passenger car without a license on a side road in Dongan-gu, Anyang City, around 11:10 p.m. the previous day, crashing into four vehicles including a 1-ton truck and passenger cars ahead, and fleeing the scene. After hitting the 1-ton truck, A left the scene without taking any action and then drove the wrong way on a one-way street, consecutively colliding with three parked vehicles.

The police, who responded to a report from the driver of the 1-ton truck involved in the accident, found A’s vehicle about 10 km away from the initial accident site and took him into custody for voluntary accompaniment. The police confirmed that the vehicle A was driving was registered under the name of a rental car company. However, it has not yet been revealed under what circumstances A came to drive the vehicle. It is reported that on the day of the incident, A left home after having an argument with his mother and then committed the offense.

A police official told Yonhap News, "A is not a juvenile offender exempt from criminal liability due to being a minor," and added, "We plan to investigate the detailed circumstances of the accident targeting A and the rental car company."

Meanwhile, on the 2nd of last month, teenagers who caused a minor collision while driving a rental car without a license were also booked for violating the Road Traffic Act. The Nonhyeon Police Station in Namdong-gu, Incheon, announced that two teenagers, including B, were booked on charges including driving without a license and are under investigation. B and others are accused of driving a rental car without a license and causing a collision around 5 p.m. on May 22 in Nonhyeon-dong, Namdong-gu, Incheon.

According to a Channel A report, when the police car chased them for traffic violations, they fled outside the vehicle without properly stopping the car they were in. As a result, the empty car kept moving and caused an accident by hitting another car parked on the shoulder. Thanks to the cooperation of nearby shopkeepers and pedestrians who joined the chase after B and others fled, they were immediately caught. Police investigations revealed that both B and the other teenager were minors in their teens without licenses, and the vehicle was confirmed to be a rental car illegally rented.
