According to the prosecution, Mr. A is accused of strangling his girlfriend's neck and stabbing her multiple times with a weapon at his home in Gwangjin-gu in the early morning of May 21, resulting in her death.

Mr. A was a senior to the victim in middle school. After they started dating in February, he excessively interfered by insisting on sharing real-time location or trying to control the people she met, according to the investigation.

As a result, the victim demanded a breakup. About 20 days before the incident, when the victim again requested to break up, Mr. A bought a weapon at a convenience store and threatened, "If we break up, I'd rather die." On the day of the incident, it was also found that he killed the victim with the weapon during an argument.

When the police arrived, the victim was already dead, and Mr. A was found collapsed after self-inflicted injury and was taken to the hospital.

A prosecution official explained, "Excessive obsession, anger, and resentment toward the victim were the main motives for the crime," and added, "We will ensure that there is no neglect in protecting and supporting the bereaved family, including financial support and trial monitoring assistance." He also stated, "We will continue to respond strictly to dating violence and violent crimes."
