2nd Anniversary Marked Without Separate Event, Future Vision Unveiled at Monthly Meeting
Achievements Include Successful K-Culture Expo and Cheonan-Style Startup Development
On the 1st, Park Sang-don, Mayor of Cheonan, shared his reflections on the past two years during the monthly meeting held at the Bongseo Hall of City Hall instead of a separate 2nd anniversary inauguration event, and then held a briefing session with journalists in the briefing room.
Cheonan Mayor Park Sang-don, on the occasion of his 2nd anniversary in office, stated, “We will raise cultural pride and open a new future for Cheonan by making advanced and future industries such as smart cities the growth engine.”
Instead of holding a separate event for the 2nd anniversary on the 1st, Mayor Park shared his reflections over the past two years at the monthly meeting held in the Bongseo Hall of City Hall.
He said, “As a result of implementing various innovative policies that citizens can feel, we have achieved significant results in various fields such as administration, welfare, culture, economy, and transportation. Following last year’s record 78 awards, we received the Presidential Citation for Family Policy Merit in the first half of this year, recognizing our excellent administrative capabilities.”
Key achievements include △ nurturing over 200 startups through the opening of the ‘Cheonan Green Startup Town’ △ successful hosting of the ‘Cheonan K-Culture Expo’ △ holding the ‘Univ City Festival,’ a joint festival of 12 local universities △ establishing a smart transportation innovation system by completely reorganizing city bus routes △ achieving a special guarantee scale of 44 billion KRW for small business owners △ pioneering overseas markets for local SMEs through dispatching trade delegations △ expanding nightscape improvement projects such as the Maple Tree Forest Path at the Independence Hall △ opening the 5th Dahamkke Care Center and providing transportation support for pregnant women.
The city plans to focus its administrative efforts on creating a new future for Cheonan by enhancing urban competitiveness through a high-quality cultural city and discovering new growth engines in the second half of the 8th local government term.
First, an organizational restructuring was implemented on the 1st, creating 1 bureau and 5 teams. By establishing the Urban Housing Bureau, the urban housing sector is separated to strengthen expertise and responsibility by bureau. New teams such as the Soccer History Museum Team, Work-Family Balance Team, Child-Friendly City Team, Bus Facilities Team, and Jiksan Library Team were created to proactively respond to administrative demands in each field.
A complex cultural and artistic space, Seongseong Art Center, will be built near Seongseong Lake Park, an ecological rest area in the city center. Cultural and artistic infrastructure will also be expanded with the groundbreaking of the Seobuk-gu Cultural Center and the completion of the Cheonan Municipal Literature Museum and Chwimukhun Calligraphy Hall.
As the only local government nationwide to be finally selected for the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport’s hub-type smart city creation contest, the city will invest 38 billion KRW to newly create a future innovation global smart city where artificial intelligence (AI) and data harmonize.
Additionally, through the simultaneous development of 15 industrial complexes along with the Cheonan Future Mobility National Industrial Complex, the city plans to redraw Cheonan’s industrial map centered on AI and future mobility industries and focus on fostering advanced and future industries as a big data R&D forward base.
Mayor Park Sang-don said, “Over the next two years, I will listen to field-centered opinions and implement demand-oriented policies. I will continue to devote all my efforts to solving citizens’ difficulties and opening a new future for Cheonan.”
