HD Hyundai Heavy, Caring for On-Site Workers' Health Amid Scorching Heat... Providing Iced Coffee

President Sangkyun Lee Visits Event Site on Opening Day to Personally Distribute Drinks and Encourage Attendees
Efforts to Prevent Heat-Related Illnesses Include Extended Lunch Breaks and Distribution of Over One Million Bottles of Water

"Have a refreshing cup of coffee and have a safe day."

HD Hyundai Heavy Industries announced on the 1st that it held a 'Coffee de CEO' event to help production site employees, who feel the midsummer heat first, overcome the heatwave at its Ulsan headquarters. 'Coffee de CEO' uses the French preposition de, meaning 'of' or 'from,' to convey a double meaning of 'coffee prepared by the CEO' and 'please have some coffee.'

From that day until the 30th of next month, executives and department heads will visit key production site locations during break time (3 p.m.) a total of 34 times to provide about 34,000 refreshing beverages (1,000 cups per session), including two types of iced coffee and Sikhye (sweet rice drink).

On the first day of the event, CEO Lee Sang-gyun and Shipbuilding Business Representative Kim Jae-eul personally participated, handing out drinks to employees to encourage and thank them for their hard work.

From the 10th of this month until the 31st of next month, lunch breaks will be extended by 30 minutes regardless of the temperature to allow employees to take sufficient rest.

HD Hyundai Heavy Industries has also prepared and is implementing various measures to prevent heat-related illnesses among production site employees during the summer.

Since June, about 1,000 ice makers and large portable air conditioners called 'Spot Coolers' have been operating to cool down the workplace. Additionally, employees have been provided with 'Air Jackets' that use cool air to lower body temperature, 68,000 sweat towels, and since the 17th of last month until August, approximately 22,000 frozen bottled waters are distributed daily, totaling about one million bottles.

As hotter weather than usual is expected this year, an 'Heat Illness Prevention Guide' has been produced in eight languages, including Korean, and additional portable heatwave shelters and heat illness prevention rest rooms have been set up.

An HD Hyundai Heavy Industries official said, "We are making multifaceted efforts more than any other year to ensure the health and sufficient rest of field workers during the summer," adding, "We hope a cool cup of coffee in the hot summer becomes a small source of vitality in daily life."
