Kim Min-seok and Lee Sung-yoon Declare Candidacy for Democratic Party Supreme Council... "Preparing for Regime Change"

Democratic Party lawmakers Kim Min-seok and Lee Sung-yoon each declared their candidacy for the Supreme Council member race in the August 18 party convention on the 1st.

On the same day, Rep. Kim issued a statement saying, "I will become the head of the ruling plan headquarters responsible for preparing the Democratic Party for government." He said, "The Democratic Party's convention, supported by public opinion and a strong presidential candidate, marks the start of full-scale preparations for government centered on Representative Lee Jae-myung," adding, "I will work with the party leader to take charge of government preparation."

Rep. Kim presented party member sovereignty, policy agreements, and a preliminary cabinet as the three major tasks of the ruling plan. He pledged regime change within his two-year term as a Supreme Council member by establishing a ruling plan headquarters under the Supreme Council to promote these three major tasks.

Rep. Kim criticized, "A lethargic ruling party without reflection and innovation is engaged in a power struggle over who is closer to the failing president and how to cover up the special prosecutor investigation into Chae Hae-byeong," adding, "Their people-betraying party convention is nothing but a minor league melodrama confirming regime collapse following the general election defeat."

He continued, "I love the Democratic Party as if it were my own body. I have fought ahead, pioneered new paths, and led many major election victories," urging, "Please form a Supreme Council that works well."

On the same day, Rep. Lee also officially announced his candidacy for the Democratic Party Supreme Council member race at a press conference at the Yeouido party headquarters, saying, "I will confront President Yoon Seok-yeol head-on."

He said, "There must be at least one person in the Democratic Party leadership who is inherently disliked and annoying to President Yoon, a thorn in his side who can confront his lawlessness," criticizing, "President Yoon has only changed his workplace from Seocho-dong to Yongsan, but continues to repeat lawless behavior from his prosecutor days."

He added, "I will be the stepping stone for the Democratic Party, a ruling party, to change the regime. I will reform the prosecution and return it to the people," emphasizing this. During his tenure as head of the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office under the Moon Jae-in administration, Rep. Lee clashed several times with then-Prosecutor General Yoon over investigations involving former Rep. Choi Kang-wook and the 'Han Dong-hoon recording misreport incident.'

Meanwhile, as of this day, seven people have announced their intention to run for the Democratic Party Supreme Council member position, including lawmakers Kang Sun-woo, Kim Byung-joo, Han Jun-ho, Kim Min-seok, and Lee Sung-yoon, as well as Kim Ji-ho, the full-time deputy spokesperson, and former lawmaker Jeong Bong-ju. It is also known that lawmakers Jeon Hyun-hee and Min Hyung-bae are preparing to run. The Democratic Party plans to narrow down the candidates to eight through a preliminary election on the 14th if there are nine or more candidates for the Supreme Council member election at the party convention.
