Recent Project Resident Briefing Held, Resident Persuasion Intensifies
Last Month, Agreement Signed with Local Residents for Public Funeral Facility Development
Asan City in Chungnam Province has begun a full-scale effort to persuade residents for the expansion of public funeral facilities.
The city plans to invest 20 billion KRW to add 40,000㎡ of land to the existing facilities, as the current public columbarium is expected to reach full capacity by 2026. The expansion will include a public funeral facility capable of accommodating approximately 39,000 urns in columbariums and natural burial grounds.
The detailed design service is scheduled to commence this month, with construction starting in 2025 and the facility aiming to open in 2027.
To this end, the city recently held a 'Resident Briefing Session for the Expansion Project of Asan City's Public Funeral Facilities' at the Songak-myeon Administrative Welfare Center meeting room for local residents.
This briefing was conducted as a follow-up measure after signing an 'Agreement for the Establishment of Public Funeral Facilities' with the opposition committee on the 11th of last month. Since public funeral facilities are essential for citizens but are often perceived as undesirable, the city prepared support measures for the residents of Songak-myeon.
A city official stated, “We will promptly advance the expansion project of public funeral facilities to meet the demand of Asan citizens in a timely manner. To fulfill our promises to residents, we will enact the ‘Ordinance on Resident Support for Areas Surrounding Funeral Facilities’ and amend related ordinances so that resident support projects can be implemented starting in 2025.”
