Daegu Happiness Promotion Agency announced on the 1st that it has provided 200 million won in transportation subsidies to disadvantaged youth and young adults in the Daegu area.
This initiative is part of the 2024 transportation welfare program "All Together to Daegu," designed to reduce the transportation cost burden for low-income youth and young adults and to encourage their academic, cultural, and job-seeking activities so they can grow into healthy members of society.
The support was provided to 2,000 individuals (1,000 youth and 1,000 young adults) recommended by nine districts and counties in cooperation with the Daegu City Welfare Policy Division. Eligible recipients were low-income, vulnerable groups (welfare recipients and those just above the welfare threshold) aged 14 to 39 residing in Daegu. Each received one transportation card valued at 100,000 won.
In addition, the "All Ride" event, aimed at promoting carbon neutrality and increased use of public transportation, is also underway. From May to September, any Daegu citizen aged 14 or older who uses public transportation (bus or subway) at least twice a month can apply through the Daegu Happiness Promotion Agency website. Each month, 400 winners are selected by lottery to receive a transportation card worth 50,000 won.
Since 2020, the Daegu Happiness Promotion Agency has been running transportation subsidy programs for disadvantaged youth and young adults for five years, striving to guarantee mobility rights for transportation-vulnerable youth and young adults while promoting the use of public transportation.
Meanwhile, the transportation welfare program "All Together to Daegu" is a welfare enhancement project for Daegu citizens that utilizes long-unused prepaid balances on transportation cards. It is operated by the Daegu Happiness Promotion Agency under a partnership agreement with Daegu City, iM UPay Co., Ltd., and the Daegu Community Chest of Korea, aiming to promote public transportation use and provide transportation welfare for vulnerable groups.
