CJ Logistics 'Smile Delivery' Launches... Collaboration with Shinsegae Begins

Discussion on Extending Next-Day Delivery Deadline Until Midnight

CJ Logistics has begun exclusively handling Gmarket's next-day delivery service, 'Smile Delivery.' This marks the full-scale collaboration between CJ Group and Shinsegae Group.


On the 1st, CJ Logistics announced that starting this month, it will provide Gmarket's Smile Delivery courier service through its own delivery brand 'One.'


Smile Delivery is Gmarket's fulfillment service that manages the entire order processing for its partnered sellers, with an average monthly delivery volume of 2.5 million orders. Sellers pre-stock their products at Gmarket fulfillment centers located in areas such as Dongtan, and Gmarket provides logistics services covering everything from order processing, inventory management, packaging, to delivery.


CJ Logistics will initially be responsible for the 'last mile' (courier) segment of Smile Delivery. Various forms of logistics collaboration are also under discussion. As a first step to enhance consumer shopping convenience, they are negotiating to extend the guaranteed next-day arrival cutoff time from the current 8 PM to midnight. Additionally, they are planning collaboration utilizing CJ Logistics' e-commerce order volume forecasting system. Furthermore, both companies will engage in activities to attract 3P sellers (e-commerce platform vendors) as fulfillment customers.


This collaboration is part of the group-level business cooperation agreement signed last month between CJ Group and Shinsegae Group. At that time, both parties promised comprehensive cooperation covering online and offline logistics, food, media, and membership sectors.


In line with the plans of both groups, CJ Logistics also intends to strengthen collaboration with Shinsegae affiliates. It will handle a significant portion of SSG.com's SSG Delivery and dawn delivery volumes in the future. They are also negotiating the transfer of two NE.O centers in Gimpo and an advanced logistics center built in Opo, operated by SSG.com, to CJ Logistics.


A CJ Logistics official stated, "We will strive to enhance the convenience of e-commerce sellers and consumers through high-quality guaranteed arrival services," adding, "We hope this successful collaboration will strengthen customer benefits based on the core competitiveness of CJ Group and Shinsegae Group."
