Collecting Residents' Memories and Archives
Enhancing Identity and Pride Through History
Sancheong County in Gyeongsangnam-do is launching a project to collect and document the region's historical content. On the 1st, Sancheong County announced that it had been selected for the '2024 Gyeongsangnam-do Regional Documentation Project' competition.
This project is designed to enhance the identity and pride of local residents by gathering memories and privately held materials from people living in Sancheong. In particular, it aims to foster a sense of belonging to the region based on historical awareness of their living environment.
Until December, the project will collect private records through a documentation contest in collaboration with the Gyeongsangnam-do Archives and work with regional documentation experts to record the life stories of Sancheong's elders and the modern and contemporary social landscape of the area. The collected records are planned to be shared with residents through an exhibition at the end of the year.
A county official stated, "This project will serve as an important opportunity to integrate the local community and establish its identity by recording and preserving the lifestyles and social aspects of Sancheong County," adding, "We will continue to do our best to develop sustainable policies tailored to Sancheong's unique characteristics so that the county can take another leap forward."
