Samsung SDI's 54th Anniversary, Choi Yoon-ho: "Overcoming Market Contraction with AI Technology"

Achieving the Goal of '2030 Global Top Tier' through Innovation and Change

Choi Yoon-ho, CEO of Samsung SDI, stated on the 1st, "When the market contracts, one of the differentiated competitive advantages customers want is quality," adding, "We must ensure the highest quality by advancing quality through applying AI technology-integrated data platforms to the quality management process."

At the '54th Anniversary Founding Ceremony' held at the Giheung headquarters in Yongin, Gyeonggi Province, attended by over 200 executives and employees including key management, CEO Choi said, "Let's firmly secure the ultra-gap technological competitiveness that can lead the market by 2030." This implies the need to further widen the gap with competitors by establishing a more strengthened quality management system and operational processes.

At the New Year's event held on January 2nd at Samsung SDI's Giheung headquarters in Yongin, Gyeonggi Province, Yoonho Choi, CEO of Samsung SDI, delivered the 2024 New Year's message.

CEO Choi expressed gratitude to the employees and partners who have dedicated themselves to the company throughout the 54 years of challenging history, saying, "Samsung SDI has prepared for the future with united efforts over the past several years and is steadily advancing toward the 2030 goal." He continued, "The temporary slowdown in growth of the electric vehicle and battery markets, which were expected to grow rapidly, is a new crisis we face," and emphasized, "We must overcome this crisis and turn it into an opportunity for a leap forward."

To this end, CEO Choi highlighted the importance of timely development of new battery models and technologies such as all-solid-state batteries, 46-pi cylindrical batteries, and dry electrodes, as well as building a broad lineup ranging from Samsung SDI's main products, premium electric vehicle batteries, to volume-oriented products like LFP batteries. He also urged the electronic materials division to secure next-generation technologies and promote timely market entry of new products.

CEO Choi further stated, "As the market contracts and competition intensifies, customer demands for price competitiveness are increasing," and requested, "I hope all employees participate together in generating ideas to achieve the world's best cost competitiveness."

Referring to the saying "Unwae Changcheon (雲外蒼天)," meaning that bright days will surely come after dark clouds, CEO Choi encouraged employees, saying, "If we pursue changes and innovations on a different level than before, we can greet the brilliant sky faster than anyone else and approach our goal of becoming a '2030 Global Top Tier Company' even more quickly."

Samsung SDI conducted the event in the order of employee awards, viewing of the anniversary video, and the anniversary speech, and broadcast it live online to all domestic business sites.
