Dried Anchovies, Dried Seaweed, Abalone, Yellow Croaker, and Solar Salt Available for Trade
Seafood trading will begin in the online wholesale market for agricultural and marine products.
According to the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, from the 1st, five items including dried anchovies, dried seaweed, abalone, yellow croaker, and solar salt, as well as hairtail, squid, pollock, yellow croaker, mackerel, and dried anchovies can be traded in the online wholesale market.
The Ministry explained that considering the difficulty in standardizing seafood due to variations in size, shape, and quality, they selected trade items focusing on dried and frozen products that have a certain level of packaging standardization and high storability.
On May 1st, the government announced the "Improvement Plan for the Distribution Structure of Agricultural and Marine Products," jointly with related ministries, expanding the "Agricultural Online Wholesale Market" to the "Agricultural and Marine Products Online Wholesale Market" and improving the system to allow online wholesale trading of seafood as well.
Kang Do-hyung, Minister of Oceans and Fisheries, stated, “With online wholesale trading of seafood, distribution channels will diversify and distribution stages will be reduced, leading to a decrease in distribution costs,” and added, “We will do our best to ensure the establishment and activation of seafood trading in the agricultural and marine products online wholesale market.”
