Busan City Decides to Reappoint Current Busan Technopark President Kim Hyungkyun for 9th Term

Appointment Ceremony for the 9th President of Busan Technopark at 11 a.m. on the 1st ... Two-Year Term

Mayor Park: "Hope to Create a Hub for Industry-Academia Collaboration and Drive an Innovation Cycle"

Busan Metropolitan City has appointed Kim Hyungkyun, the current president of Busan Technopark, as the president of the 9th Busan Technopark.

This marks the first reappointment since the implementation of the city's '2+1 Responsibility System' for public institution heads in 2018.

The letter of appointment will be presented at 11 a.m. today at the City Hall Protocol Office, and the term of the 9th president will be two years from the date of appointment.

President Kim began his career as a senior researcher at the Busan Institute, the city’s policy research institute, and has served as the city’s special policy advisor, head of the Creative City Headquarters, and as the 8th president of Busan Technopark.

During his tenure as president of Busan Technopark, he leveraged his policy network, experience, and capabilities in policy development to steadily expand the organization and manage the institution stably over the past three years.

He has contributed to expanding Busan’s future growth engines by identifying new industrial sectors such as hydrogen, secondary batteries, power semiconductors, and the coffee industry, in addition to manufacturing.

In particular, he achieved notable results by establishing over 100 Jisan-hak (industry-academia-government) cooperation branches to build a collaborative system, which is a core project of the city administration.

Over the past three years, he has also increased government project funding by 1.5 times and received the highest S grade in management evaluations conducted by the Ministry of SMEs and Startups, earning a reputation for stable leadership.

On the 20th, the Special Committee for the Verification of Public Institution Head Candidates of the City Council (Chairman: Cho Sangjin) held a personnel hearing on the appointment of the 9th president of Busan Technopark to verify President Kim’s management philosophy, strategy, ethics, and overall policy competence. On June 21, the committee adopted a report deeming him 'qualified' and notified the city of the result.

Mayor Park Hyungjoon emphasized, “As the head of an institution responsible for advancing the technological sophistication of local industries and discovering and fostering promising small and strong enterprises in Busan, I ask you to continue listening closely to the voices of local businesses and provide meticulous support as needed. I hope Busan Technopark will play a leading role in creating a virtuous cycle where the main actors of Jisan-hak cooperation voluntarily participate in innovation, using the Jisan-hak branches as a hub.”
