The Export-Import Bank of Korea announced on the 30th that it will provide a loan of $810 million for the Karnaphuli Bridge construction project in Bangladesh.
On the 27th (local time), Yoon Hee-sung, President of the Export-Import Bank, met with Sharia Kader Siddique, Deputy Minister of Finance of Bangladesh, in Dhaka and signed a loan agreement based on this content. This is the largest scale ever for a project supported by the Economic Development Cooperation Fund (EDCF).
This project involves constructing a combined railway and road bridge over the Karnaphuli River in the Chattogram region of southeastern Bangladesh, along with connecting roads. The total project cost is $1.24 billion, with the Bangladesh government investing $430 million, the EDCF providing $720 million, and the Economic Development Promotion Fund (EDPF) contributing $90 million.
President Yoon said, "Together with the government, we will support the establishment of essential infrastructure for the industrial advancement of Bangladesh by utilizing various financial packages such as the EDCF and EDPF."
