Analysis suggests that the reason President Joe Biden appeared sluggish in the recent first TV debate for the US presidential candidates lies in the 'time of day.' Being elderly, he is more likely to feel fatigued and make verbal slips after 4 p.m.
According to US internet media Axios and the UK Telegraph on the 29th (local time), Biden's aides stated that he usually participates in public events in front of cameras between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., during which he performs steadily.
However, they added that after 4 p.m., he tends to feel fatigued, increasing the likelihood of verbal mistakes either after 4 p.m. or during overseas trips.

On the 27th, President Biden and former President Donald Trump attended a CNN-hosted TV debate ahead of the November presidential election. The debate started at 9 p.m. Eastern Time.
During the debate, President Biden made statements that were out of context and repeatedly stammered. Democratic supporters, who have been concerned about his age, expressed worried reactions.
After the debate, President Biden acknowledged his poor performance by saying, "I don’t walk as comfortably as I used to, I don’t speak as fluently as I used to, and I don’t debate as well as I used to," but he dismissed calls within and outside the party for a candidate replacement.
