Military-Style Kindergarten, Enrollment Full for 2026
"Enrollment Strategy in the Era of Low Birthrate"
A kindergarten in China that teaches basic life skills such as laundry and cooking to foster children's independence is gaining attention.
According to recent reports from Hong Kong's South China Morning Post (SCMP) and others, a TikToker recently released a video capturing a day at a Chinese kindergarten.
The video showed children aged 3 to 6 learning basic life skills and participating in various physical activities at the kindergarten.
The children bounced balls together in rhythm with music and jumped rope with their friends. Despite their young age, their coordination was perfectly synchronized, drawing attention.
The kindergarten's physical activities also included "military-style training." The children climbed ropes that even adults would find difficult to ascend and balanced by stomping their feet while standing on tires.
They also learned practical life skills. In the video, the children washed vegetables and cooked by themselves.
The TikToker said, "While children at other kindergartens eat, sleep, and play games, the children at this Chinese kindergarten learn independence by doing laundry and cooking."
He added, "After meals, the children voluntarily wash the dishes," and explained, "After eating, they do embroidery, weave mats, and even use sewing machines to make beds."
A teacher at the kindergarten stated, "Since teaching elementary school curricula in kindergartens was banned, we have shifted to more innovative and diverse activities."
In fact, kindergartens offering such educational programs have become very popular, with many parents enrolling their children from distant areas such as Harbin in the north and Mongolia. The kindergarten featured on TikTok was fully booked until 2026.
In an interview with the Chinese weekly magazine Nan Fang Ren Wu Zhou Kan, a parent said, "The kindergarten offers various activities to attract enrollments." These unique educational programs are part of a strategy to attract students amid a situation where kindergartens are closing due to low birth rates.
