Jakarta Urban Railway Operation Consulting Project Promotion
President Baekho: "We Will Showcase Excellent Operation Technology to the World"
Seoul Metro announced on the 1st that following the 'Jakarta Light Rail Capacity Building Project' in Indonesia, it will launch the 'Jakarta Urban Rail Operation Consulting Project' starting next year.
This project win marks the second achievement Seoul Metro has made in Indonesia. Forming a consortium with Samsung C&T and Dohwa Engineering, they will develop the public transportation usage environment in Jakarta and support the establishment of a sustainable public transportation system. The project period is from next year until 2028, with a total project cost of 9.8 million USD (approximately 13 billion KRW).
Since 2020, Seoul Metro has been carrying out the Jakarta Light Rail Capacity Building Project, the first railway operation consulting project commissioned by the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), successfully completing the project on April 30. Seoul Metro explained that the high-quality consulting results related to this project likely contributed favorably to this decision.
Seoul Metro plans to select one pilot station to remodel it by reflecting non-transport business strategies such as customer service, marketing, safety, and convenience, making it a model for the expansion of Jakarta's urban rail system.
Meanwhile, besides Indonesia, Seoul Metro is conducting overseas projects including ▲pre-consulting for the opening preparation of the Sydney Metro Western Line and Western Airport Line in Australia ▲operation and maintenance consulting for Manila Urban Rail Line 4 (MRT 4) in the Philippines ▲consulting for passenger car procurement for Bangladesh Railway.
Based on Seoul Subway’s excellent system and over 50 years of accumulated expertise in operating urban railways, Seoul Metro has been steadily seeking to enter the overseas railway operation and maintenance consulting business sector. Over the past 10 years, it has achieved results by securing a total of 26 projects, large and small, including the Manila MRT3 management and operation consulting project in the Philippines, the preparation consulting project for operation and maintenance of the Indian Metropolitan Railway, the preliminary feasibility study for the Costa Rica Metropolitan Passenger Railway, and the preliminary feasibility study for the Panama Metro.
In particular, this year has been designated as the inaugural year to maximize overseas business profits based on past achievements, and Seoul Metro is putting great effort into it. In the second half of this year, it will participate in the Bangladesh Railway Signal Modernization Consulting Project and the bidding for construction management of the Manila Subway in the Philippines.
