Hyundai Engineering & Construction Advances Site Automation with Customized Robotics Technology

Robotics Lab Unveiled, Demonstrating Advanced Robot Technologies Including Remote Control and Unmanned Construction

Hyundai Engineering & Construction Advances Site Automation with Customized Robotics Technology

Hyundai Engineering & Construction announced on the 30th that it held an 'Innovative R&D Construction Robot Technology Demonstration' on the 27th at the Robotics Lab within its Technology Research Institute in Yongin, Gyeonggi Province.

The demonstration focused on 'remote control' and 'unmanned construction.' A total of nine construction robots were introduced, including four construction site management robots based on a digital twin platform (Spot, unmanned drone, indoor inspection drone, underwater drone), the dual-arm robot 'Armstrong' equipped with remote control technology, the remote tower crane 'Tawaremo,' an automatic road drilling robot capable of unmanned construction, an indoor autonomous painting robot, and a construction 3D printing robot.

On that day, the remote tower crane utilizing low-latency communication technology and multi-faceted sensors demonstrated long-distance remote control by operating a tower crane installed at a construction site in Osaka, Japan, from the Robotics Lab in Yongin.

In particular, Hyundai Engineering & Construction, which began technology development in 2019 and is currently applying it on-site, received praise for enhancing the completeness of concrete 3D printing technology by using a multi-joint robot controllable with up to seven axes and an artificial intelligence (AI) model that infers the optimal output combination.

The structure produced by the concrete 3D printing robot was installed at 'Hillstate Yongin Dunjeon Station' and won an award at the 'Asia Design Prize 2024.'

A Hyundai Engineering & Construction official stated, “Since establishing a dedicated construction robot team in 2020 and opening the first robotics research facility among construction companies, we have been focusing on expanding smart construction technology and applying robotics. We will continue to collaborate with domestic and international construction companies and robot developers to realize construction-tailored robot technology and lead innovation in construction unmanned and automation.”
