"Up to 2.5 Million KRW Support"... Seoul City 'Hope House Repair' Recruitment

Recruiting 320 Households Including Semi-basement Homes with Income Below 60% of Median Standard

Seoul City will provide home repair costs to low-income households living in poor housing conditions. Up to 2.5 million KRW will be supported for various home repairs across 18 categories, including wallpaper and flooring replacement.

On the 30th, Seoul City announced that it will recruit 320 households to participate in the second half of the 'Hope Home Repair' project starting from the 1st of next month. Households wishing to receive home repairs can apply through their local community service center by the 31st of next month.

Applications are accepted from semi-basement households with an income below 60% of the median income or emergency households recommended by the district office. Both homeowners and tenants can apply. However, homeowners must currently reside in the house to be eligible.

Households with an income below 48% of the median income are eligible for repair maintenance benefits and are therefore not supported under this program. Support is only available for properties classified as "housing" under the Housing Act. Semi-basement rooms like goshiwon or unauthorized buildings are not eligible. Households that have previously participated in the 'Hope Home Repair' project can apply only after three years from the year they received support, so households supported between 2021 and 2023 cannot apply this year.

The supported home repair items include a total of 18 types, ranging from wallpaper, flooring, windows, and pest control to safety facility installations such as water barriers and fire alarms.

Households wishing to receive support should visit their local community service center to fill out and submit the application documents. After screening in August, the final target households will be selected, and repairs are expected to begin in earnest as early as September.

Since last year, the city has increased the support amount per household and added new categories, reflecting feedback from households that previously participated in the project. As a result, satisfaction with the project improved from 82.9% in 2022 to 87.9% in 2023.

Han Byung-yong, Director of Housing Policy, said, "We will continue to make steady efforts to improve the safety and quality of life for housing-vulnerable households."
