"Feeling Free Is Important for Sexual Minorities"
The Norwegian Minister of Culture and Equality received applause after boldly exposing her chest in front of the public.
On the 27th (local time), according to foreign media including Norway's Nettavisen, Lubna Jaffery, Norway's Minister of Culture and Equality, attended the 'Oslo Pride' event held in Oslo, the capital of Norway, on the 25th. This event is considered a representative festival for sexual minorities.
During a talk show held as part of the event, Minister Jaffery, after finishing her speech, said, "I didn't prepare a special outfit today," and then lifted her top. Her chest was fully exposed in front of the audience, with a pre-prepared sparkling sticker attached to it.
Since the event is held with the purpose of accepting sexual minorities as they are, many participants wore revealing or unique costumes. Minister Jaffery's action appeared to be a gesture of support for sexual minorities. The audience, understanding her intention, cheered and applauded.
Afterwards, Minister Jaffery said, "It is important that sexual minorities feel safe and free, and my action was a small contribution toward that." The event organizers praised her, saying, "It is remarkable that the minister is not afraid to put herself forward," and added, "In the 10 years of the event, we have never seen applause like the one Minister Jaffery received."
Meanwhile, Norway is one of the countries with a high human rights index for sexual minorities. According to the 'Korea LGBTI Human Rights Status 2018' published by the SOGI Law Policy Research Association, assuming the rainbow index of countries where sexual minorities receive completely equal treatment as 100%, the top countries included Malta (91.04%), Norway (77.74%), and the United Kingdom (75.73%).
