"They Find Director Park Very Attractive"
Park Hang-seo, who served as the head coach of the Vietnam national football team and rose to fame as a Vietnamese football hero known as 'Sal-dingkeu,' has applied for the position of head coach of the India national football team.
On the 27th (local time), according to the Indian daily Times of India and others, the All India Football Federation (AIFF) announced, "A total of 214 candidates, including Coach Park, have applied for the position of head coach of the India national team," adding, "We plan to start the official selection process after receiving applications until the 3rd of next month."
The Times of India reported, "AIFF is very attracted to Coach Park," and quoted an AIFF official saying about Park's application, "It is a good sign for Indian football." The media also introduced Park's achievements in Vietnam and added, "AIFF is expected to be cautious about Park's high salary."
Coach Park began his coaching career in 1991 as a coach for Anyang LG Cheetahs. Later, he joined the South Korean national football team as an assistant coach under head coach Guus Hiddink and shared the joy of reaching the semifinals in the 2002 World Cup.
In particular, Coach Park took charge of the Vietnam national football team in 2017 and contributed to the advancement of Vietnamese football. Until he stepped down as head coach in January last year, he led the team to the semifinals of the 2018 Jakarta-Palembang Asian Games and won the 2018 ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) Suzuki Cup. Subsequently, Coach Park became a 'Vietnamese football hero' and even appeared in major advertisements in Vietnam.
Meanwhile, India, despite having the largest population in the world, is only ranked 121st in the FIFA rankings. However, it is increasing investments in various areas with the dream of rising as a football powerhouse.
