The hopes of Gijang County in Busan to attract a ‘KTX-Eum stop’ have been expressed even in handwritten letters by children at local daycare centers.

Gijang County (Governor Jung Jongbok) recently announced on the 28th that it is bolstering efforts to secure a KTX-Eum stop by conducting a joint campaign at over 100 daycare centers in the region.

This campaign is being led by the Gijang County Daycare Association (President Kim Hyunjung), with participation from directors and children of member daycare centers.

The daycare children wrote heartfelt letters expressing their wishes for a KTX-Eum stop in Gijang County and shared photos with messages of support.

President Kim Hyunjung said, “Thanks to the great interest and active participation of daycare directors, we were able to carry out a hopeful campaign for the KTX-Eum stop in Gijang County,” and emphasized, “We sincerely hope that the future generations of Gijang will be able to travel all the way to Seoul by KTX-Eum from our region.”

Governor Jung Jongbok stated, “When I visit the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport this July, I will personally deliver the children’s letters, conveying the earnest wishes of all Gijang residents for the KTX-Eum stop.”

He added, “Taking into account factors such as accessibility to the 13 local industrial complexes, including the Dongnam Radiation Oncology Science Industrial Complex where the Gijang Heavy Ion Therapy Center, a hub for cancer treatment in southern Korea, will be established, and the massive transportation demand from the Osiria Tourism Complex, which attracts 10 million visitors annually, Gijang County is truly the optimal location for a KTX-Eum stop.”

Gijang County completed a feasibility study for the KTX-Eum stop in 2022, and in 2023, directly submitted a petition with 141,000 signatures from county residents to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, demonstrating the full participation of all residents in the campaign to attract the KTX-Eum stop.
