Daejeon City 2040 Urban Master Plan (Draft) Public Hearing...Reorganization from 2 Downtowns to 3 Downtowns Daejeon City held a public hearing on the 28th at the old Chungnam Provincial Government large conference room to establish the '2040 Daejeon Urban Master Plan (Draft).' / Daejeon City

On the 28th, Daejeon City held a public hearing at the old Chungnam Provincial Government main conference room, attended by residents and related parties, to establish the '2040 Daejeon Urban Master Plan (draft)' and the '2030 Industrial Area Master Plan (draft)'.

The 2040 Urban Master Plan presents the future vision of 'Daejeon, the Science and Economic Capital, Center of Opportunity and Innovation,' along with △central area system △development and conservation axes △living zones.

The central areas have been reorganized from the existing two downtowns to a three-downtown system by adding 'Yuseong,' and the name of the old downtown has been changed to Innovation Downtown considering the urban regeneration innovation project underway around Daejeon Station.

Development axes were set considering the upper-level plans and connectivity to the Chungcheong region hub cities, establishing three north-south growth main axes and two east-west growth sub-axes. The first administrative complex axis, a growth main axis, is a complex axis of advanced industry and administration, spanning from Sindong to Geumsan. The second new growth industry axis is a development axis to promote Daejeon's four strategic projects, covering Noeun to Jinjam. The third new residential axis is for residential maintenance in the old downtown area, covering the sections from Sintanjin to Gao and Panam.

The conservation axes were set to strengthen the ecological network by considering wide-area and regional environmental resources such as Geumgang River, Daecheong Lake, and Gyeryongsan Mountain, and the living zones were set as Yuseong, Dunsan, and Innovation Downtown living zones to secure flexibility in population and land use in preparation for future development.

The 2030 Industrial Area Master Plan presented management directions for 4.73㎢ of industrial areas excluding industrial complexes and research and development special zones.

Choi Jong-su, Director of the Urban Planning Division of Daejeon City, said, “We will actively review various opinions from experts and citizens to ensure they are reflected in the master plan.”
