On the 28th, Changwon Special City in Gyeongnam held the '2024 Second Quarter Changwon Special City Integrated Defense Council' at the City Hall Citizen Hall, presided over by Mayor Hong Nam-pyo. More than 40 members and officials from the military, police, fire department, and other related organizations attended the meeting.
The meeting proceeded in the following order: a forecast on North Korea's threats against the South by the National Intelligence Service, a presentation of integrated defense case studies by the 1st Battalion of the 5870th Unit, a thematic discussion, and the hearing of suggestions.
This meeting included an integrated defense thematic discussion on the topic of 'Citizen Protection Measures in the Event of Sewage Balloon Dispersion in the Changwon Area.'
In preparation for possible situations such as North Korea's ballistic missile launches and other provocations that have continued since the beginning of the year, participants discussed the roles of each organization and rapid cooperation measures to respond swiftly.
Mayor Hong stated, "North Korea has heightened military tensions on the Korean Peninsula year after year, starting with missile provocations at the beginning of this year, followed by recent sewage balloon provocations and the suspension of the effectiveness of the September 19 Military Agreement. I urge all related organizations to concretize the matters discussed in this meeting through communication and always cooperate closely to ensure the safety of our citizens with prompt initial response in emergencies."
