1645 Returnees to Farming and Rural Areas, 132 New Farmers

Goheung-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Gong Young-min) has proven itself as the number one destination for return-to-farm migrants by recording the highest number of returnees in Jeollanam-do.

According to the '2023 Return-to-Farm and Return-to-Village Statistics' announced by Statistics Korea on the 26th, the population that returned to farming and rural living in Goheung-gun last year was 1,645, of which the number of return-to-farm migrants was 132 (164 including household members). This is the highest number among cities and counties in Jeollanam-do and the second highest nationwide among county-level areas.

Among the return-to-farm and return-to-village migrants, 754 (45.8%) were young returnees aged 30 to 40, and 891 (54.2%) were middle-aged and older returnees aged 50 and above, showing that Goheung-gun attracts returnees from various age groups.

The county is making efforts to improve future strategic industries and living conditions by expanding the Goheung-style large-scale smart farm innovation valley and creating residential complexes by region for young people who will lead future advanced agriculture. To provide higher quality return-to-farm education, the existing Namyang-myeon Return-to-Farm School will be expanded to build a 'Stay-type Return-to-Farm and Return-to-Village Happiness School.'

A county official stated, “We plan to actively work on establishing various policies to attract and support the settlement of return-to-farm and return-to-village migrants to become the number one city for these populations.”

Meanwhile, the county has been recognized externally as a center for return-to-farm and return-to-village activities, having ranked first for three consecutive years in the Jeollanam-do comprehensive evaluation of return-to-farm and return-to-village, and being selected as the 'Best' institution nationwide in the 2023 Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs' performance evaluation for attracting return-to-farm and return-to-village migrants.
