Goh Byung-il, President of Gwangju Bank, Joins ByeBye Plastic Challenge

This challenge is a campaign promoted by the Ministry of Environment to reduce the use of disposable plastics in daily life through a nationwide practice movement. Public institutions, company representatives, or ordinary citizens post their commitment to reduce plastic use on SNS and nominate the next participants.

Gwangju Bank has continuously promoted the spread of an eco-friendly culture by producing and using personal cups engraved with the Gwangju Bank character ‘KJ BEARS’ and employees’ names to eradicate disposable product use among employees. In May, Gwangju Bank conducted a resource recycling campaign targeting its employees, resulting in about 1,700 employees from Gwangju, Jeonnam, and the metropolitan area donating over 5,000 reusable items such as clothing, electronics, and books.

The donated items were sold to visitors through the eco flea market ‘Nabi Festa,’ and the sales proceeds were delivered to vulnerable groups in the region, including multi-child families, through the Beautiful Store Foundation.

Ko Byung-il, President of Gwangju Bank, said, “By participating in the Bye Bye Plastic Challenge, we will seek concrete measures to achieve carbon neutrality and accelerate sustainable eco-friendly practices. Gwangju Bank will take the lead in environmental protection for a better future.”
