Pulmuone is showing strong performance. Securities firms' forecasts that land-based seaweed farming will be commercialized next year seem to be influencing the stock price. Amid recent sharp rises in seaweed prices and ongoing supply shortages, land-based seaweed farming technology is gaining attention as a new alternative. Due to rising sea temperatures and issues like seaweed disease, offshore farming is becoming difficult. Pulmuone has developed technology to cultivate seaweed on land instead of the sea. Commercialization could be possible as early as next year.
As of 9:29 AM on the 28th, Pulmuone was trading at 15,320 KRW, up 1,350 KRW (9.66%) compared to the previous trading day.
Researcher Son Hyun-jung from Yuanta Securities explained, "Pulmuone obtained the first domestic permit for land-based tank seawater seaweed farming in March." She added, "In April, they began commercializing land-farmed seaweed products and started selling them at their own vegan restaurants." She further noted, "Commercialization as seasoned seaweed and snacks is expected to be possible as early as next year."
In March, Pulmuone obtained the first domestic permit for 'seaweed' land-based tank seawater farming. Currently, they produce more than 10 kg of land-farmed seaweed per month. Going forward, they plan to provide fishermen with a distribution model for land-based seaweed farming and process the produced seaweed into seasoned seaweed, snacks, and other products for sale.
Researcher Son analyzed, "Land-based farming using bioreactors has the advantage of preventing seaweed disease infection and producing safe seaweed without heavy metal contamination." She added, "Pulmuone started research in 2021 and succeeded in farming seaweed in a 1-ton tank within two years." She also emphasized, "The production per unit area is 100 times higher than offshore farming," and "Unlike offshore farming, year-round production is possible, allowing seaweed cultivation throughout all four seasons, which is highly efficient." She noted, "It takes about two weeks from placing the seed seaweed in the tank to harvest," and "Harvesting can be done 24 times a year."
She introduced, "Pulmuone plans to export the new product 'Seoul Ramyeon' to the U.S. market starting next month." She explained, "Seoul Ramyeon is a product jointly developed with the Seoul Metropolitan Government and has sold 1 million packs within five months of its launch, gaining popularity domestically." She added, "Exporting to the U.S. is expected to be an important opportunity to increase brand awareness," and "After October, sales will be expanded globally."
