Naver Whale's in-car browser will be installed in Renault Korea's new car, the Grand Koleos.
Naver Cloud announced on the 28th at the '2024 Busan Mobility Show' that Renault Korea's new car Grand Koleos, equipped with the Whale in-car browser, was unveiled.
Earlier in February, Renault Korea Motors and DreamAce signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for 'collaboration on building an automotive web platform.' Through the Whale in-car browser, users can access various web-based services such as ▲online videos ▲music streaming ▲social media. The Whale in-car browser is optimized for the automotive environment to enable organic connection between the car's internal hardware system and web services. To allow users to easily experience web services even inside the vehicle, an intuitive UI (user interface) was implemented by removing features like the 'browser tab function.'
The Whale in-car browser is characterized by its high compatibility, providing users with various infotainment services in the same environment without restrictions from the car hardware or operating system (OS).
In contrast, infotainment systems that are not web-based require separate app development and updates tailored to the respective OS. However, with the Whale in-car browser, web apps can be easily developed and installed according to web standards, enhancing service scalability. Naver Cloud and Renault Korea plan to continue collaborating to offer users a broader range of services.
Kim Hyo, Director at Naver Cloud, said, "We will continue to advance technology to ensure the Whale in-car browser connects stably with vehicles and provide users with an innovative mobility experience." He added, "Whale will continue to leverage the extensibility of web technology to strengthen the web platform ecosystem across various sectors, from edutech to infotainment."
