Brand Rankings: Hyundai 3rd, Kia 4th
Kia K3 Tops Compact Sedan Segment for 6 Consecutive Years

Hyundai Motor Group ranked first among 15 global automotive groups in the U.S. Initial Quality Study. The group’s product competitiveness was recognized in the most prestigious survey that serves as a benchmark for U.S. consumers’ vehicle purchases.

On the 28th, Hyundai Motor Group announced that it achieved the best results among global automotive groups in the '2024 Initial Quality Study (IQS)' released by U.S. market research firm J.D. Power.

Now in its 38th year, the J.D. Power Initial Quality Study is the world’s most authoritative quality survey, which began in 1987. It compiles customer complaints experienced within the first three months after purchasing a vehicle and expresses the number of complaints per 100 vehicles as a score; a lower score indicates higher quality satisfaction. This year’s survey covered a total of 31 brands, including 17 mass-market brands and 14 premium brands. The results were based on surveys of approximately 100,000 customers who purchased new vehicles in the U.S. from April last year to February this year, covering 227 items.

Hyundai Motor Group recorded the lowest average score of 164 points among 15 global automotive groups, surpassing Nissan (168 points) and General Motors (172 points) to take first place. It received favorable evaluations for innovative convenience features, differentiated design, infotainment, and driver assistance and safety functions.

By brand, Hyundai Motor Company scored 162 points, ranking third overall among mass-market and all brands, following Ram (149 points) and Chevrolet (160 points). Kia ranked fourth with 163 points, just behind Hyundai. Genesis ranked third among premium brands with 184 points.

In segment-specific evaluations, the Kia K3 (known locally as Forte) secured first place in the compact sedan segment for six consecutive years. The Kia Carnival ranked first in the minivan segment for two consecutive years, the Genesis G80 took first place in the mid-large premium sedan segment for four consecutive years, and the Hyundai Santa Cruz ranked first in the midsize pickup truck segment, resulting in four models receiving the 'Highest Quality Award.'

The J.D. Power survey results serve not only as a benchmark for U.S. consumers’ vehicle purchases but also as a key indicator to gauge the quality competitiveness of manufacturers. Hyundai Motor Group expects its competitiveness in the North American market to be further enhanced based on this survey outcome.

A Hyundai Motor Group official stated, "Hyundai Motor Group is committed to providing the highest quality and technology to meet the increasingly diverse customer demands. Based on the positive response from U.S. consumers, we will continue to strive for continuous quality improvement and innovation to offer vehicles of excellent quality."
