Separator Manufacturing and Sales Classified as 'Green Activities'
Application of ESG Guidelines Including Double Materiality Assessment
SK Innovation Electronics Technology (SKIET) has published its 2023 Sustainability Management Report.
According to the report released by SKIET on the 28th, its core product, secondary battery separators, has been designated as an innovative item contributing to greenhouse gas reduction under the K-Taxonomy.
K-Taxonomy is a Korean green classification system that presents principles and standards for green economic activities. SKIET stated that it proactively adopted the K-Taxonomy evaluation to strengthen green management.
It was evaluated that no violations related to environment, human rights, labor, safety, or anti-corruption occurred in all domestic and overseas business sites, thereby meeting all exclusion and protection criteria of the K-Taxonomy.
Additionally, to identify biodiversity risks and opportunities in management and industrial activities, an assessment based on the Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD) was conducted, showing that the risk levels at all domestic and overseas business sites were medium or below.
Furthermore, the board of directors, including executives and outside directors, conducted a double materiality assessment and selected five key issues: ▲product safety and quality enhancement ▲occupational health and safety management ▲climate change response ▲hazardous substances and waste management ▲ethical management and compliance.
The double materiality assessment is an evaluation that considers both the impact of corporate management activities on the environment and society and the impact of environmental and social changes on the company’s financial status.
An SKIET official said, "We thoroughly evaluated last year’s environmental activities according to strict standards such as the K-Taxonomy environmental goals and the European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS), and transparently disclosed them in this Sustainability Management Report. We plan to continue proactively responding to environmental agendas going forward."
