Busan Completes Korea's First Pilot of Digital Safety Management System for Logistics Sites and Holds Performance Report Meeting

Crown Harbor Hotel Busan, 10 AM on the 26th: Performance Report on Demonstration and Expansion Support Project

Nation's First Planning Support Project Demonstration Results... Improved Safety Management Efficiency, 80% Satisfaction

The city of Busan held a performance report meeting for the "Logistics Site Digital Safety Management System Demonstration and Expansion Support Project," which was selected as a 2023 Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MOLIT) public offering project, at 10 a.m. on the 26th at Crown Harbor Hotel Busan.

This project targets 21 logistics companies in the Busan area and supports ▲ the establishment of logistics site safety management software (SW), ▲ the distribution of accident prevention devices in workplaces, and ▲ risk assessment and consulting to respond to safety regulations.

The city was the first in the country to plan this project, which was finally selected as a MOLIT public offering project last year, and has carried out demonstrations over the past year.

The project was designed to support digitalized safety management environments for logistics companies with aging equipment and non-digitalized work environments that have high risks of accidents, in order to reduce the accident rate in the logistics industry and promote safety management practices.

At the report meeting, all representatives from the 21 participating logistics companies attended, and the event included the announcement of demonstration results, presentations of best practices by three companies (Samill Cold Storage, BIDC, Busan New Port Logitec), and a special lecture by Professor Jang Seongrok of the Department of Safety Engineering at Pukyong National University.

In a satisfaction survey on the demonstration project, the 21 companies evaluated that the most necessary element for establishing a safety management system is the construction of high-quality, customized digital systems. They noted that this demonstration project resulted in ▲ safety management with participation from all employees rather than just one person, ▲ real-time sharing of safety information, and ▲ increased work efficiency due to reduced workload and working hours for safety management tasks.

Satisfaction with the supported systems and devices was also found to be positive for more than 80% of respondents.

Based on this demonstration, the city plans to continuously support the management activities of outstanding local logistics companies and to plan and implement various projects to strengthen the competitiveness of the regional logistics sector.

Cho Youngtae, Director of the New Airport Promotion Headquarters of the city, said, "Recently, the domestic logistics industry has seen a surge in demand due to the explosive growth of the e-commerce market after COVID-19. However, local logistics companies are still vulnerable to safety issues due to aging facilities and non-digitalized work environments. The city will continue to promote support projects for safety management in logistics companies so that these companies can establish digitalized safety management environments, and we will make Busan a logistics safety city."
