Geumcheon-gu to Operate from June 29 to August 25, 10 AM to 5 PM (Closed Every Monday and Friday)
Additional Installation of Cooperative Play Equipment, Renovation of Rest Deck and Shade Shelter
Geumcheon-gu (Mayor Yu Seong-hoon) announced that the ‘Geumcheon Pongdangpongdang Children's Water Playground,’ located in the floodplain under Geumcheon Bridge on Anyangcheon Stream, will open from June 29.
The ‘Geumcheon Pongdangpongdang Children's Water Playground,’ a famous spot on Anyangcheon Stream, spans 17 meters in width, 195 meters in length, and covers an area of 3,303㎡. It features two pools, purification devices, and water features (fountains), and operates free of charge.
To ensure safety for not only children but also infants and toddlers, the water depth is adjusted, operating separate pools for children and for infants and toddlers.
Shade tents and resting areas are installed around the water playground for relaxation, and there is a resting deck on the embankment slope that can accommodate about 100 people. Convenience facilities such as restrooms and changing rooms are also provided.
This year, the district added one combined play structure to the children's pool and reorganized the resting deck and shade tents so residents can use the resting spaces more comfortably. Underwater pumps and piping were also maintained to keep the water quality clean.
Every weekend and public holiday, various cultural performances for children, including soap bubble shows, balloon performances, magic shows, and street performances, will be held.
Additionally, volunteers, safety management personnel, and nursing staff will be stationed at all times to prepare for emergencies. A ‘Care Center’ will be operated to provide treatment if children sustain abrasions while playing in the water, aiming to prevent safety accidents.
To ensure visitor safety and prevent water pollution, the playground operates 50 minutes per hour (with a 10-minute break), requires aqua shoes (regular shoes such as sneakers are not allowed), swimming suits and hats must be worn, visitors must wash their bodies before entering, and children under 5 years old are prohibited from entering the children’s zone (they must enter the infant zone).
The water playground is closed every Monday and Friday for cleaning the purification tanks and facility maintenance. Notices regarding additional closures, such as during rainy weather, will be announced on the Geumcheon-gu Office website under ‘Geumcheon News.’
Mayor Yu Seong-hoon of Geumcheon-gu stated, “We have newly renovated the water playground this year so that our children can enjoy water play more safely and happily. We hope many people will use it,” and added, “We will do our best to manage water quality and safety so that it can be a comfortable space for families to relax near their homes.”
The ‘Geumcheon Pongdangpongdang Children's Water Playground’ opened in 2015 and is celebrating its 10th year this year. The maximum daily number of users is 3,500, with a cumulative total of 294,000 users. Thanks to the district’s thorough safety management, no safety accidents have occurred since its opening.
