Provided 1.43 Million Won to Election Staff Despite Not Being the Accounting Officer
The Chungnam Election Commission announced that it has reported Mr. A, the election liaison office chief, to the Daejeon District Prosecutors' Office on charges of violating the Political Funds Act in relation to the 22nd National Assembly election.
Mr. A, who served as the election liaison office chief for candidate B, is accused of providing 1.43 million KRW in cash to Mr. C, who was not the accounting officer but acted as an election worker, as compensation for election campaigning.
According to the Political Funds Act, income and expenditure of political funds such as election expenses must be conducted only through the registered accounting officer and the registered bank account, and all income and expenditure details must be fully recorded when reporting accounts to the Election Commission.
A representative of the Chungnam Election Commission stated, "Unauthorized expenditure of political funds, false accounting reports, and fabrication of supporting documents are major violations under the Political Funds Act," adding, "We will continue to thoroughly investigate violations and take strict measures."
