Standardization of Railway Facility Equipment Specifications... Korea Rail Network Authority "Preventing Confusion Among Partners"

The standard specifications for railway facility supplies have been unified.

The Korea Rail Network Authority announced on the 27th that it has integrated the standard specifications for railway facility supplies, which had been managed by Korea Railroad Corporation (KORAIL), into the Korea Railway Standard Specifications (managed by the Korea Railroad Research Institute) and the Authority's own standard specifications, thereby unifying them.

The unification of standard specifications is expected to help prevent confusion among manufacturers and partners in the railway sector.

Previously, the Authority had been promoting the unification of standard specifications since 2022 to support smooth supply of materials for railway construction and improvement, and to enhance the quality of railway facility supplies.

The core of the unification involves comparing and reviewing 194 standard specifications in railway fields such as track, equipment, electric power for electric trains, signaling, and communication, which were managed by KORAIL, with the Korea Railway Standard Specifications and the Authority's standard specifications, and unifying 147 of them, excluding 47 for which there are no plans for new incorporation.

For the unification, the Authority conducted technical consultations and reviews by internal and external experts from both the Authority and KORAIL in each field.

Lee Seong-hae, Chairman of the Korea Rail Network Authority, said, “Through the unification of the management of standard specifications for railway facility supplies, we expect to secure reliability in the purchase and management of railway facility supplies and contribute to realizing ‘customer satisfaction,’ which is the Authority’s top priority.”
