On the early morning of the 6th, a man identified as A (37), accused of killing a homeless person at the entrance of the underground passage at Seoul Station, was brought to trial while in custody.
On the 27th, the Criminal Division 3 of the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office (Chief Prosecutor Choi Soon-ho) indicted A on charges of murder and requested an electronic monitoring order. A is accused of stabbing and killing a homeless person who was sleeping with a weapon he had prepared in advance, driven by a hallucination that he needed to kill the homeless to stop the war.
A claimed that he never intended to kill the victim from the beginning and argued that the victim attacked him first, leading to the killing.
However, after a multifaceted investigation including CCTV footage analysis, forensic examination, and mobile phone digital forensics, the prosecution revealed that A had searched the crime scene on the internet beforehand and even conducted a reconnaissance. Based on the fact that A killed the sleeping victim on site with a weapon prepared in advance, the prosecution regards this as a premeditated crime.
A prosecution official stated, "We will thoroughly maintain the prosecution to ensure the defendant receives a sentence commensurate with the crime and will respond strictly to violent crimes that threaten the life and safety of others."
