Picked Up a Rod-Shaped Object While Working in the Field 20 Years Ago
Used It as a Hammer... Only to Find Out It Was a Grenade
A 90-year-old grandmother in China was shocked to discover that the hammer she had been using for over 20 years was actually a grenade.
On the 27th (local time), the Hong Kong South China Morning Post (SCMP) reported that Ms. Chinmo (90), who lives in Xiangyang City, Hubei Province in central China, was shocked to learn belatedly that the hammer she had used for 20 years was a grenade.
The story dates back about 20 years. At that time, Ms. Chin found a peculiar rod-shaped metal object while working in her field. Since then, she had used the object as a hammer for driving nails, cracking nuts, or as a pestle for crushing chili peppers.
Recently, Ms. Chin finally realized that the object was a grenade. On the 23rd, workers who came to demolish her old house reported to the police that the object appeared to be a grenade.
Police and the bomb disposal team who responded examined the grenade and confirmed that it was a Chinese-made 1967 model grenade. At the time of discovery, the wooden handle was smooth and glossy from years of use, and the head part had a large hole from repeated striking. It was even reported that part of the grenade’s fuse (detonator) was exposed. The police then safely collected the grenade.
Local police emphasized during safety education for village residents, "If you find an object that looks like a grenade, do not touch it or use it as a tool, and immediately report it to the police."
Local netizens expressed various reactions such as, "The police must have been surprised too. This grandmother is really lucky and blessed," "It's impressive that the grandmother used a grenade as a hammer for over 20 years," and "A grandmother who escaped death at every moment."
