A parent who threatened a proctor's school after their child was caught cheating on the College Scholastic Ability Test (CSAT) has been brought to trial.
The Criminal Division 2 of the Seoul Southern District Prosecutors' Office (Chief Prosecutor Park Seong-min) announced on the 27th that Mr. A was indicted without detention on charges of defamation and intimidation.
According to the prosecution, Mr. A, a well-known instructor at a civil service exam academy and a lawyer, is accused of staging a one-person protest in front of the education support office responsible after his child was caught cheating by a CSAT proctor last year, resulting in the invalidation of the exam.
He searched the internet to confirm the proctor's personal information and the school where they worked, then continued a one-person protest holding a placard containing false information demanding the proctor's dismissal, threatening with the intent of "ruining their life."
The prosecution stated, "We will make every effort to ensure that Mr. A receives punishment commensurate with his crimes and will respond strictly to crimes that infringe upon legitimate educational authority."
