Jeonnam Police Conduct Large-Scale Simultaneous Joint Drunk Driving Crackdown

Efforts Continue to Reduce Fatal Accidents Related to Drunk Driving

The Jeollanam-do Provincial Police Agency and the Autonomous Police Committee are strengthening drunk driving crackdowns to raise social awareness of the dangers of drunk driving.

According to the Jeonnam Police Agency, from 7 PM to midnight on the 27th, all police stations will simultaneously conduct joint drunk driving crackdowns.

Although drunk driving traffic accidents have been decreasing recently in the Jeonnam area, fatal accidents related to drunk driving still occur.

In particular, single-vehicle motorcycle drunk driving accidents and pedestrian fatal accidents caused by passenger cars have highlighted the need for efforts to eradicate drunk driving.

Last month, there was an accident where a passenger car driver with a blood alcohol concentration of 0.132% ran over a victim lying on the road while driving, resulting in death, and another accident where a motorcycle driver with a blood alcohol concentration of 0.216% crashed into a roadside ditch on the right side of the road while driving, resulting in death.

Accordingly, the Jeonnam Police plan to strengthen drunk driving crackdowns in areas with concerns about drunk driving by cooperating not only with traffic police but also with local police and security partners.

Each police station will conduct regular crackdowns in areas with high concerns about drunk driving and will also carry out spot crackdowns two to three times a week or more.

A representative of the Jeonnam Police Agency urged, “Drunk driving is a serious crime that threatens the lives of oneself and others, and active participation from residents is necessary.”
