On the 27th, Samjong KPMG held the appointment ceremony for the '10th Audit Committee Support Center (ACI) Advisory Professors' at its headquarters in Yeoksam-dong.
Samjong KPMG established the ACI in 2015, the first in the industry, to strengthen accounting transparency and support improvements in corporate governance. Newly appointed to this advisory professor group are Professor Seong Jae-ho of Sungkyunkwan University School of Law, Professor Shin Jin-young of Yonsei University School of Business, and Professor Park So-jung of Seoul National University School of Business. Professor Lee Man-woo, Professor Emeritus of Korea University School of Business, was reappointed.
Professor Lee Man-woo served as the 26th President of the Korean Accounting Association and has held positions such as member of the Ministry of Strategy and Finance's Tax Development Deliberation Committee and member of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy's Business Restructuring Plan Deliberation Committee. He is a leading expert in accounting and taxation and currently serves as an outside director of S-1 Corporation.
Professor Seong Jae-ho, known as an international law scholar, has served as president of the Korean branch of the International Law Association (ILA) and as a member of the Financial Services Commission's Public Fund Management Committee. He currently serves as director of the Future Policy Research Institute at Sungkyunkwan University and as an outside director (audit committee member) of NICE Investors Service.
Professor Shin Jin-young is an expert in corporate governance who has served as a member of the Financial Services Commission's Financial Development Deliberation Committee, chairman of the Public Officials Pension Risk Management Committee, president of the Korean Securities Association, and president of the Korea Corporate Governance Service. He is currently serving as president of the Korea Capital Market Institute.
Professor Park So-jung has served as a member of the Financial Services Commission's Financial Development Deliberation Committee and was formerly the chairperson of the audit committee at AIA Life Insurance. She is actively engaged as an expert in insurance, financial finance, and fintech.
The advisory professor group will serve a one-year term until June next year, providing advice on all activities of Samjong KPMG's ACI. They will advise on audit committee activities related to their areas of expertise, including contributing to and reviewing ACI publications such as the 'Audit Committee Journal.' Through regular meetings, they will also explore effective directions for the operation of audit committees.
Professor Lee Man-woo stated, “The role and responsibility of audit committees are increasingly demanded due to new technologies and environmental changes, such as ESG information disclosure and the development of AI (artificial intelligence) governance.” He added, “We will spare no effort to support the establishment of proper corporate governance and accounting transparency in our companies.”
