14.6km from Geumgwang Lake to Cheongryongsa
The Anseong 41 Course of the Gyeonggi Dullegil is a 14.6 km trail that connects Geumgwang Lake to Cheongryongsa Temple. You must cross Seoun Mountain, which stands at 547 meters above sea level. The journey begins at Geumgwang Lake. The scenery of the lake lingers in your eyes, and after crossing the low Ssukgogae Pass, you will encounter another lake, Madun Lake. It is widely known as a popular spot for car camping and camping. A walking trail is also established around the lake, making it a great place for a stroll. Various walking events are held here as well.
Walking along the Madun Lake trail, it is nice to take photos with the wide lake as a backdrop. Following the path, you will pass through a village and then enter the Seoun Mountain Natural Recreation Forest. It is a cozy natural recreation forest nestled among dense woods. Equipped with an auto camping site and a campground, it attracts camping enthusiasts every year without fail.
At the foot of the mountain lies Seoknamsa Temple. The water flowing down the northern slope of Seoun Mountain gathers in the Seoknamsa Valley. Founded during the reign of King Munmu of Silla, Seoknamsa is a simple and neat temple. Although it is not a large temple, the stairway leading up to the Daeungjeon Hall is picturesque. The popular drama "Goblin" was filmed here. The stone stairs harmonize with the Daeungjeon Hall, showcasing the grandeur of Seoknamsa. Taking an 'insta-worthy' photo on the stairs like the drama’s main characters is also part of the fun of walking this trail.
Leaving Seoknamsa, you ascend Seoun Mountain. It is a modest dirt mountain with almost no rocks. It is not rugged, making it suitable for family hikes. The gentle terrain allows for a light hike or a chance to study history through cultural relics. The 'Tanghyungdae,' said to cleanse the heart, is considered the best observatory on Seoun Mountain. The sunset viewed from the summit of Seoun Mountain is also exquisite.
Following the gently continuing trail down Seoun Mountain toward Eunjukam Hermitage, you will reach your destination, Cheongryongsa Temple. The temple’s name comes from a legend that during the reconstruction by the Goryeo-era monk Naong, a blue dragon descended riding on a cloud full of auspicious energy. The bronze bell and the Daeungjeon Hall, created by the 18th-century monk and artisan Sainbigu, are designated national treasures. Cheongryongsa is also famous as a fall foliage spot. The tranquil temple becomes a photo zone wherever you take pictures.
