Renault Korea has unveiled the new hybrid sports utility vehicle (SUV) 'Grand Koleos,' marking the first step in its next-generation eco-friendly vehicle development project.
On the 27th, Renault Korea showcased the mid-size (D-segment) hybrid SUV Grand Koleos at the '2024 Busan Mobility Show' held at BEXCO in Busan. The name Koleos was inspired by the Latin word 'coleoptera,' which means strength and robustness.
The Grand Koleos will be available in three trims: Techno, Iconic, and Esprit Alpine. The 'Esprit Alpine,' inspired by Renault Group's flagship sports car brand Alpine, is the top-tier trim introduced for the first time in the domestic market.
The Grand Koleos is built on the CMA platform, which is also used by Geely Automobile and Volvo Cars. Approximately 18% of ultra-high-strength components have been applied to enhance the vehicle's rigidity and ensure safety. Additionally, a QR code called 'QResque' has been implemented, allowing quick and easy access to vehicle information to facilitate the safe and prompt rescue of occupants at the accident site.
The Grand Koleos offers up to 31 advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS). The 'Active Driver Assist,' a Level 2 autonomous driving assistance technology, is standard on all trims. For the first time in Korea, an ADAS-dedicated map that includes urban roads is provided via streaming, achieving excellent recognition of warning signs.
The Grand Koleos is equipped with Renault Group's new hybrid system delivering up to 245 horsepower. In urban areas with speeds below 40 km/h, it can operate in electric mode up to 75% of the time. This enables fuel savings of up to 50% compared to gasoline engines in city driving conditions.
The interior design features an 'openR' panoramic screen composed of three connected 12.3-inch displays. It runs the latest Android OS based on Qualcomm's power infotainment platform. Furthermore, the Grand Koleos is equipped with a large 25.6-inch augmented reality head-up display (HUD).
Renault Korea will begin customer deliveries of the Grand Koleos in the second half of this year and has started accepting pre-orders from today.
