Culture Ministry to Create 'Webtoon Cannes Film Festival'... Global Awards Contest Announced

Call for Entries: 1st Global Webtoon Awards

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Creative Content Agency are accepting submissions from around the world for the 1st Global Webtoon Awards until July 26.

The grand prize is for works serialized for more than three months on domestic or international webtoon platforms from January 2022 to May of this year. Applications can be made by the authors themselves, as well as platforms, production companies, associations, or organizations with the consent of the authors. Recommendations will also be received through an 'Awards Committee' composed of experts.

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism will select ten main award winners through judging. The awards will be presented at the 1st 'Global Webtoon Festival (tentative name),' held jointly with the Seoul Metropolitan Government.

A Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism official stated, "This is the first step toward creating a 'Cannes International Film Festival of the Webtoon World,' announced in the 'Directions for the Development of the Comics and Webtoon Industry' last January," adding, "We will fully support the Webtoon Awards and Festival to become a stage dreamed of by webtoon artists worldwide and a festival for fans."
