People Power Party's Joo Ho-young Elected as National Assembly Deputy Speaker for Their Quota

Final Confirmation in the Plenary Session on the Afternoon of the 27th
Primary Election Results: Ju Ho-young 54 Votes, Park Deok-heum 41 Votes

The People Power Party has selected six-term lawmaker Joo Ho-young as its candidate for the National Assembly Deputy Speaker position allocated to the ruling party.

On the morning of the 27th, the People Power Party held a party meeting at the National Assembly and conducted a vote to elect the Deputy Speaker for the first half of the 22nd National Assembly. Out of a total of 95 votes, Representative Joo received 54 votes, becoming the final candidate. Four-term Representative Park Deok-heum, who also participated in the primary, received 41 votes. It was initially known that the Deputy Speaker position would be shared between the longest-serving Representative Joo and Representative Cho Kyung-tae for the first and second halves, but Representative Park challenged the election, emphasizing that Speaker Woo Won-shik is a five-term lawmaker.

In his policy speech that day, Representative Joo said, "Since this position involves facing the Speaker and Deputy Speaker from the Democratic Party at a 2 to 1 ratio, it is better to have more experience," adding, "I believe many lawmakers will respect the convention of prioritizing seniority and length of service." The People Power Party's Deputy Speaker candidate will be finalized after a final vote in the plenary session that afternoon.

Representative Joo, who first entered politics as a member of the 17th National Assembly, is the longest-serving lawmaker from the Daegu-Gyeongbuk region. He has held key positions within the party, including Floor Deputy Leader of the Grand National Party, Policy Committee Chairman of the Saenuri Party, Floor Leader of the Bareun Party and the United Future Party, and Chairman of the Emergency Response Committee of the People Power Party. In the 20th general election, he was excluded from the Saenuri Party nomination, left the party, was elected as an independent, and later rejoined the party.
